Post from a new fan - Model 19 plans

Hi,

I have recently joined this board and also my first post. I have long been a Altec fan, what with my dad part timing some 30-40 years back consulting movie halls. He used to talk of Altec multi-cellular horns and bass bins.

Never got around to laying my hands on them, till recently a friend of mine from a forum helped me procure 416s and 811s/808s. Ofcourse I am refurbishing them with dias and cones from GPA.

Now I want to house them in a design similar to Altec Model 19. I have good access to a cabinet maker. I have seen some sketchy plans of Model 19, but cannot figure what it is inside. Is it a back loaded horn, bass reflex?

Anyone give me pointer to plans of Model 19 and some pictures inside the box?

...as you may learn soon, building or having cabs built is often the most costly and biggest pain in the butt with this hobby...

I'm looking for someone in my area (Westchester county NY) to construct Model 19 cabs now and it is not easy to get what your looking for at a reasonable cost.

The Model 411 woofer is a very good unit for home hi-fidelity. ..very accurate and super high sensativity. dynamic range is excellent...

I am new to Altec but not for speaker building. As mentioned before, I have a great carpenter with me, who is willing to show off his skills. Thanks to the plans, should not be a problem. Yes, what I need to worry about is the WAF piece :-)

At 93dB W/M, the 411 is one of Altec's least sensitive woofers.

Don't forget that M19 crossover. It's supposed to be quite a challenge to construct. It maybe the most challenging part of the 19 build. At least that is my understanding...
